Sleepy Dogs

My dogs have done a lot of this during our long hot summer - well, there is the heat as well as their age. I did these sketches a few nights ago and have no idea why the date I put on was 10-10.

An outing in the park for these two dogs and their human.

My approach to this painting was somewhat different and the result is kind of dark - or rather "strong contrasts". Artists really have many choices when creating artwork depending on the mood they want to convey and I thought about the different ways I could have approached this scene. So I practiced on some paper with some different options.

The first two I limited my palette to just two complements (plus white):
blue/orange


purple/yellow


And the final one I decided to try for a high key effect.
