Second Choice

9x8 oil on paper

This is another version I played around with for the shoe subject. I distorted the photo image and rather liked the look and decided to paint from it. I love that its been reduced to just a few colors and shapes. Its interesting that it communicates what is going on, with very little detail. It was a lot of fun to experiment. Both paintings are available in my ETSY store.

This is indeed interesting. And I'm so glad our Challenge is motivating us all to do something (or some things) a little differently. I know I've sure been having a good time. Looks like you have too!

Strangely I really strongly prefer your very loose painting of these shoes to the tighter version below. But I'm sure there are others who would feel the opposite way. Both are good though!

Camille, I have to agree. I really like this vague suggestion and the color harmony. But I wonder if I use Photoshop to help me get to this level of impressionism, or abstraction, is that rather cheating? I'd like to try more though. Maybe that will train my eye to lose more edges and suggest rather than define.
