Cowgirl

30 minute study

I've been in the habit lately of just cutting off a piece of linen and taping it up when I need a certain size. Haven't had the right panels available or something. Makes for a bit more work later gluing and mounting things, but its convenient when you want to get right to work.

I'm about to hand my computer off now to get a new smokin' fast (big?) hard drive installed. Lots of tech upgrades lately. Some unplanned too.

Really great! I can't believe you did this in just thirty minutes! You really captured the action perfectly!

nice Robin. Feels like home. So what do you use in gluing your canvas to a support?

I'm curious about how you glue the linen to the panel after you've already painted on it...

Of course it needs to be dry, but are there any other issues to consider?

I used to do that all the time! Why limit yourself to a certain size. Good work!!

Hi all - I meant to reply sooner to the inquiries about glue. I use a fabric adhesive I got at a local frame supply warehouse. Its by "UMSCO". I've also used Miracle Muck, a book binders glue by Lineco. And Yes paste. But I wouldn't recommend it, its too thick and has to be scooped out and spread.
First, I drizzle the glue on the back of my linen and then spread it around with a plastic putty knife. Place it on gatorboard and use a brayer to roll it out (cover the painting with a clean, lint free cloth first). Then I stack some heavy books on it and let it dry overnight. I cut the excess linen from the edges and its ready to frame.
The linen will shrink some, so it best to paint beyond your "lines" if you are doing a certain size.
If I paint on a larger size, above 11x14, I generally give myself enough extra canvas to stretch it around bars. - Peace - Robin
