12x9 oil on panelThis hip young lady is looking at a Picasso painting called "Bathers in a Forest" at the MOMA. The bathers are kinked and angled and the girl's stance seemed to echo that as she stepped in close to examine his work.
I thought I'd show a close up of some of my brushwork on this one. You can click below for an enlarged version. Today felt really good - once I got started. (late)
Purchase info will follow next week.

8x12 oil on panelThis man was viewing French impressionist portraits in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. I could spend 20 mins. online looking for the exact paintings, but do not have that much time. I can just say that I am really pleased with this little painting. I did it two weeks ago now maybe, and today I wish I could paint like this again! Its nice to have some of your own work to look to for inspiration though.I still haven't been able to get back to my routine. And I wish there was some way to shake of the stresses, the aches and pains, the dullness, and just create. But, I have to leave soon and apparently need perfect alignment of my world in order to work. I tend to obsess and stress - like my father. When I have something I need to plan or figure out, I can't stop thinking about it. At the moment I have about 10 things I am obsessing about. I won't bore you with my problems however, and will get to the good stuff. One to do item is to ship this painting to join the others I sent earlier this week to another new gallery! I was recently contacted by the beautiful Polonaise Art Gallery in Woodstock, Vermont and asked to join their fine group of artists. Having many collectors in the north east, I hope that my work will be well received there. I'm very excited about my artistic growth (despite the set backs) and expanding representation. And... its raining in Austin! This is a very good thing.

This young man had a comfy seat in the Harn Museum of Art (Univ. of Florida) to contemplate a wall of Marilyns by Warhol. The red and green version is really quite garish!
I found a neat site that has some info about Warhol's prints and an interactive Marilyn that you can color.

The lady in the reddish coat here is gazing at the Hopper painting "Chair Car" in which a woman in red is gazing at another passenger in the parlor car. I love Hopper's work. Though his subjects often seem to have a loneliness about them. Its something that has been remarked on and studied at length though by minds superior to mine. I just love his compositions and color and so I chose one of his to complement my subject.

Ask Russell Collection Fine Art about this painting.
This was like therapy for me today. We've had the flu in the house and while I have been lucky (knock on wood) to not get it, I have been nursing and cleaning a lot. So while my two invalids were resting today I managed to paint this. I approached it a little differently than normal, painted more slowly and really got absorbed in it. It felt very good.
The woman here is filling her field of vision with Barnett Newman's "Vir Heroicus Sublimis" (Man, heroic and sublime.)

I've always been drawn to this painting by Wyeth. The young woman appears to be in distress to me. Such a mood he created. But here I've painted her some friends who are as eager to understand her as I am. It was particularly serendipitous that Christina's windblown hair and belt matched the style of the young lady viewing her in the MOMA in NY.

I've been working this week, just not on small, blog works. Commissions and "larger" pieces have taken up my time. This scene is another from the Blanton. I liked the pose this woman adopted while she studied this very large painting. I made it much more abstracted than it really is, but I had fun doing so.
Next stop, the Texas coast for some R&R with artist friend, V Vaughan (and Anna). We are going to pose for V's class on the beach there. I hope - Anna does not sit still much. :-)
Speaking of the coast, I thought share a watercolor my mom did recently and emailed me. This is where my talents originated.

I've missed doing the museum scenes, so today after finishing two small commission pieces, I had fun painting this well-dressed woman, viewing some enormous nudes in the American Contemporary section of the Blanton. I need to find the artist and title of the piece.
